About us
AsiaRecon is a program set up to help foster, develop and build Australia's engagement across the technology, innovation and entrepreneurial sector within Asia by promoting the transfer of people, capital and ideas.
What we want to be
To be recognised as the peak organisation for establishing economic relationships and value between Asia and Australia across the technology, innovation and entrepreneurship space.
What we want to do
1. Expose Australian entrepreneurs, corporates, investors, and other ecosystem contributors to the epicentre of Asia’s technology and innovation evolution
2. Facilitate relationships that may convert into economic and collaborative partnerships between Asia and Australia
3. Foster the exchange of people, ideas, and capital between Asia and Australia
4. Build camaraderie and friendships amongst the delegates & partners
Why AsiaRecon ?
1. Australia needs to diversify its economy beyond mining and services towards technology & innovation based economy
Too much of Australia’s GDP relies on the service and mining sectors, nearly 70% and 20% respectively. The problem with the service industry is that it is labor and time intensive, and people come and go. The issue with mining is that supplies cannot be regenerated.
2. Australia needs to drive more scalable economic benefit for our small population through technology & innovation
With a very small population of less than 23 million, Australia doesn’t have the luxury of a large labor force. Instead, we must be more efficient with each worker. One clear way to do this is by producing scalable mobile and internet products that can reach far beyond our borders at speed. Research shows technology companies generate much higher labor productivity (revenues per employee) than traditional industries and able to multiply more jobs than any other industry.
3. Australia needs to develop stronger economic relationships and understanding with our neighbours in Asia
Australia is nestled at the bottom corner of the globe but is still part of the Asia Pacific family. According to Austrade, Asia will account for 40% of the world’s GDP by 2019. Although a growing number of Australia’s population comes from Asia, most Australian’s are not aware of Asia’s market opportunities or how to do business there. This must change.
